In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has provided greater flexibility for physicians to prescribe high frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO) therapy to Medicare beneficiaries.
Do I Qualify for SmartVest Under the New CMS Waiver?
Beginning March 1, 2020, clinical indications and documentation typically required to prescribe a respiratory product, like SmartVest, will not be enforced. The minimum documentation now required to prescribe SmartVest for Medicare beneficiaries is:
- A valid SmartVest Prescription
- Documentation of your respiratory-related diagnosis
Once the documentation is sent to our team, your SmartVest journey begins! We’ll assign you a dedicated patient care team member to guide you through the process of getting your respiratory vest customized to suit your style and size, answer any questions you have, and schedule a virtual training session with an Electromed Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), so you can start performing therapy as soon as it arrives.
“All the trainings I have done via phone/Facetime have been very successful. Patients seem very appreciative that they are able to do [virtual] trainings during this unpredictable time and their susceptibility to COVID-19.” -Michelle, Electromed Patient Trainer
Other Important Waiver Details
CMS has also waived face-to-face requirements for prescribing SmartVest. Clinicians can now meet with patients virtually using TeleHealth services.
Prescribing Effective Therapy with the Electromed Team is Simple!
In conjunction with the new CMS Waiver, our team is working together to help make the prescription process even easier and convenient for both patients and their health care teams.
We now offer e-prescribe options to help streamline the documentation process. This will allow clinicians to submit prescriptions securely and simply to Electromed through DocuSign.
