How to Get Your SmartVest

Living with bronchiectasis? Contact your doctor to request a HRCT scan of your lungs and airways. Once you have been properly diagnosed, ask your doctor about HFCWO therapy via the SmartVest Airway Clearance System and start experiencing relief from your chronic symptoms. 

Starting Your SmartVest Journey with Electromed

Your SmartVest support team is here to help guide you through your prescription process and coordinate your vest’s reimbursement, so you can start enjoying the benefits of airway clearance the moment it arrives at your door. 

We require minimal information to begin the prescription process. Ask your doctor to complete the required forms and fax all completed documents to Electromed at 866.758.5077 or they can submit via GoScripts.

Questions about Prescribing a SmartVest to Your Patients? Work With Our Clinical Support Team to Complete the SmartVest Prescription Process:

  • The first step in the SmartVest prescription process is to complete the Patient Demographics Form and SmartVest Prescription and Certificate of Medical Necessity.

    Complete our patient demographics form, SmartVest prescription, and certificate of medical necessity.

  • The second step in the SmartVest prescription process is for the patient to fill out and sign the Patient Agreement and Consent form.

    Fill in patient information and have the patient sign our patient agreement and consent form.

  • The third and final step in the SmartVest prescription process is checking the Medicare requirements for documentation.

    For patients with Medicare, refer to the Medicare requirements for bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, or neuromuscular conditions.

Is SmartVest Covered by Insurance?

Insurance providers that cover our HFCWO therapy device include:

  • Private insurance
  • Medicare New Waiver
  • State Medical Assistance
  • A combination of the above insurance carriers
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

To ensure coverage, patients living with bronchiectasis will need documentation of:

  • Antibiotics or Productive Cough?

    Frequent exacerbations requiring antibiotic therapy (i.e. more than twice annually) OR daily productive cough

  • High-Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) scan confirming diagnosis of bronchiectasis.

  • A common symptom of impaired airway clearance is breathlessness.
