Healthy Lung Month 2021

Did you know that October is Healthy Lung Month? Recognized by the American Lung Association, this is a special time of year when healthcare professionals, patients, and community members can join together to share and learn new information about lung health.

To show our appreciation to the many individuals who work hard to support those living with a chronic lung condition, we wanted to highlight two important events that we can all take part in during October: Case Management Week and Respiratory Care Week.

What Is Case Management Week?

Every year the American Case Management Association (ACMA) recognizes case managers and transition of care professionals all over the country. The goal of this week is to honor their endless dedication in providing quality continuity of care services to patients.

What Do Case Managers Do?

These individuals are responsible for the planning, coordinating, and monitoring of patient care programs—from hospitals to rehabilitation centers to home health settings.

When you are admitted into a hospital, for example, due to a flare up from a chronic lung condition, a case manager is assigned to ensure you follow the best treatment plan as your needs change and you transition to outpatient care.

Case Management Week 2021

Case management week falls on October 10th-16th. According to ACMA, the theme for this year is Case Management: Care, Compassion, and Community.

Want to Get Involved?

You can easily show your appreciation with ACMA’s official toolkit for creative ideas on how to celebrate case managers in your organization, on social media, and around your community. You can also subscribe to their podcast on what’s new in case management today!

What Is Respiratory Care Week?

Respiratory Care Week helps recognize the essential work and dedication of respiratory care professionals around the globe. It presents us with a great opportunity to celebrate the incredible work they do and remind us to help spread awareness about respiratory health to others.

This year, Respiratory Care Week falls on October 24th-30th. Whether you are a patient or prescriber, there are many ways you, too, can get involved and help say thank you to respiratory therapists serving in your area.

The American Association for Respiratory Care provides a community-based platform and guide for you to tell stories, show gratitude, and find educational tools and graphics to share with those in your community.

Visit their website and remember to follow their hashtag: #RCWEEK21 to stay connected to news and events taking place beginning October 24th of this year. You can also visit the Respiratory Therapy Zone to learn the history of International Respiratory Care Week, including when it started and how it continues to evolve today!
